Nassagaweya is a small village in Milton’s northwestern outskirts named after a defunct township. The township’s name is derived from the Mississauga word nazhesahgewayyong, which means river with two outlets.’ This alludes to the fact that the township’s watercourses drain into Lake Ontario as well as the Grand River system. Originally, Nassagaweya was part of Halton County. The township was inherited by the Town of Milton when the Regional Municipality of Halton was formed in 1974.
